Waterloo woman charged after falsely reporting stolen firearm

A Waterloo woman was arrested Wednesday after police determined she had falsely reported a firearm as stolen.

Melissa L. Woodcock, 49, was charged with providing a false written statement and falsely reporting an incident in the third degree, following an investigation by the Canandaigua Police Department. Authorities say Woodcock initially claimed in a written statement that her shotgun had been stolen from her residence on October 2. However, investigators later determined that she had actually given the firearm to an acquaintance.

Woodcock was arrested at the Canandaigua Police Department and later released on an appearance ticket. She is scheduled to appear in City of Canandaigua Court at a later date.
