Seneca Falls board to vote on landfill permit, host agreement

  • Staff Report

The Seneca Falls Town Board is set to vote Tuesday on whether to grant Seneca Meadows Inc. a local operating permit beyond 2025 and approve a new host community agreement (HCA). The landfill, currently without a town permit, awaits a state decision on its proposed expansion through 2040.

If approved, the HCA would replace a 2007 agreement, providing nearly $150 million to the town over 15 years and implementing pollution mitigation measures. However, environmental groups urge the board to reject the permit, citing local authority over landfill operations.

The vote will take place at the start of the 6 p.m. meeting at the Seneca Falls Community Center, before public comment.
