House GOP budget faces backlash over Medicaid cuts

House Republicans narrowly passed a budget that includes $4.5 trillion in tax breaks and $2 trillion in spending cuts, with $880 billion expected to come from Medicaid. Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries criticized the plan, calling it a reckless attack on vulnerable Americans.

Republicans argue the Medicaid cuts will come from “efficiencies,” not individual benefits, but Jeffries remains skeptical. He challenged the GOP to prove they are not slashing essential health care funding.

Jeffries also condemned Elon Musk’s government-backed DOGE Service, accusing it of misusing taxpayer data. He suggested cutting Musk’s federal contracts before reducing social programs. House Democrats plan to fight against both the budget and DOGE efforts.
