A Seneca County woman has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies after allegedly falsifying an application for public assistance, authorities said.
Courtney B. Bower, 27, of Ovid, was taken into custody on February 21 and charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, welfare fraud in the fourth degree, and offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree. Investigators allege that Bower submitted false information on an application to the Seneca County Department of Human Services, leading to her receiving more than $1,000 in benefits she was not eligible for.
Bower was processed and arraigned at the Seneca County Jail. She is scheduled to appear before the Waterloo Town Court at a later date for further proceedings.
Seneca County Sheriff Timothy Thompson announced the arrest and emphasized the importance of safeguarding public assistance programs from fraud.
