Ontario County officials will hold a final public open house on March 4 to present findings and gather community input on the draft Freight Rail Corridor Development Plan for Geneva and Phelps.
The open house will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Finger Lakes Welcome Center in Geneva. The event will be informal, allowing attendees to drop in at their convenience to review the draft report and share feedback. There will be no formal presentation.
The draft plan addresses current conditions and incorporates feedback from previous public meetings. It aims to identify areas for industrial development along the corridor, improve safety for pedestrians and vehicles, provide rail-related zoning recommendations, and assess the impact of the Norfolk Southern rail line closure from Geneva to Lyons. Additionally, the plan examines the Geneva railyard’s infrastructure and potential efficiency improvements.
Ontario County is working on the plan in collaboration with the Towns of Geneva and Phelps, the Village of Phelps, the City of Geneva, the Finger Lakes Railway, the Genesee Transportation Council, and the New York State Department of Transportation.
