The Seneca County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday, approving several resolutions related to county operations, public health, and economic development, while also discussing upcoming initiatives.
The meeting opened with routine approvals, including the minutes from the board’s January session. No members of the public spoke during the privilege of the floor.
Grants, budget amendments, and infrastructure investments
Among the key financial matters, supervisors authorized amendments to the 2024 county budget and accepted multiple grants. These included a performance incentive grant from the New York State Department of Health and funding from the state’s Office of Indigent Legal Services. Additionally, the board approved participation in the Greater Tompkins County Municipal Health Insurance Consortium for 2025.
The board approved the purchase of a new wireless system and a 2025 Ford Explorer for the code enforcement office. A contract was also authorized for emergency assistance through a shared highway services agreement.
In a move to support veterans, the board approved an agreement with the Veterans One-Stop Center, which assists the Seneca County Veteran Service Agency. They also authorized a contract for speech therapy services for the county’s preschool program.
Mental health and public safety
Supervisors voted to restructure a position in the mental health department, abolishing a clinical therapist role while creating a senior addiction counselor position. Additionally, a policy update regarding employee responsibilities for health and safety was approved.
The board accepted a grant from the New York State Parks and Recreation Department to support navigation law enforcement. Additionally, an updated agreement with Monroe County was approved for housing incarcerated individuals from Seneca County. A new contract was also authorized for the sheriff’s office to provide court security services in the town of Tyre.
Agriculture and economic development
The board set a 30-day period for landowners to request inclusion in the county’s agricultural district. They also authorized issuing a notice for bidders on on-demand architectural services.
The Seneca County Funding Corporation approved the appointment of Ralph Lott, furthering economic development efforts.
The Finger Lakes Regional Airport will host a Chamber of Commerce event on June 18 to showcase recent improvements. Supervisors approved applying for and accepting a Federal Aviation Administration grant to fund the design and construction of the northern apron pavement at the airport.
Executive session concludes February meeting
Before adjourning, the board entered an executive session under Public Officers Law to discuss a personnel matter involving appointment, promotion, or disciplinary action. The session included the county attorney, and action was expected to be taken following the discussion.
The next scheduled meeting of the board will take place in March.
