Geneva police launch online guide to help residents start Neighborhood Watch programs

  • Staff Report

In response to growing community interest, the Geneva Police Department has launched an online step-by-step guide to help residents establish Neighborhood Watch programs. The initiative aims to strengthen community ties, enhance safety, and improve communication between neighbors.

A Neighborhood Watch is a volunteer-driven program where residents collaborate to deter crime and foster a sense of security. While the Geneva Police Department offers guidance and serves as a liaison, it does not supervise or monitor these groups.

The department’s guide walks residents through the process, starting with notifying the police and organizing a community meeting. From there, participants are encouraged to map out their neighborhood, invite neighbors, elect leaders, and establish regular meetings. The guide also outlines best practices for home security inspections, signage, and long-term engagement.
