Nester Hose Company honors longtime members at annual banquet

The Nester Hose Company of the Geneva Fire Department gathered on February 1 for its 138th Annual Banquet, recognizing firefighters who have dedicated decades of service to the community.

Two members, David LaVoie and Michael Stramandinoli, were honored as new 50-Year Members, while Kelly Hart and Joseph McDonald were recognized as new 25-Year Life Members. Each honoree received a gold lapel pin engraved with either “50-Year Member of Nester Hose Co.” or “25 Years of Service” and “Life Member.” Hart was the only recipient in attendance.


Addressing the firefighters, Fire Chief Del Parrotta praised their commitment to the city. “Geneva is safer and stronger because of you,” he said, emphasizing their bravery and teamwork.

The event, held at the Hydrant Hose Company, was attended by several officials, including Deputy Fire Chief Mike Bucklin, Police Chief Ron Eveland, Ontario Director of Emergency Management John Yannotti Jr., and officers and commissioners from the Hydrant Hose Company and the Folger Hook and Ladder Company.

A highlight of the banquet was the announcement of the Top 10 firefighters, based on attendance at fire calls, training, work details, and meetings. Captain Steve Lathey listed the honorees: Dan Gallagher (1), Rob Patnesky (2), Mike Bucklin (3), Steve Lathey (4), John Guinan (5), Chris Lamson (6), Rick Rhinehart (7), Sean Bucklin (8), Billy McNicholas (9), and Don McGuigan (10).

New members inducted since last year’s banquet were also recognized: Kyle Nelson, Zachariah Long, Marshall King, Alexander Marancik, Lincoln Champlin, Joseph Hart, Wyatt Tobin, Gavin Brignall, and Jayson Booth.

The banquet also included recognition of company officers: Assistant Chief Dan Gallagher, Captain Steve Lathey, 1st Lt. Billy McNicholas, 2nd Lt. Mike John, President John Guinan, Vice President Bill Sweeney, Treasurer Bobby Harris III, Recording Secretary Peg Mahoney, Financial Secretary Rob Patnesky, and board members Mike Bucklin, Mike John, Billy McNicholas, and Don McGuigan. Mike John also served as chair of the dinner.
