FDA recalls canned tuna over contamination risk

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

The FDA has issued a recall of canned tuna sold at major retailers, including Walmart, Trader Joe’s, Kroger, and Costco, due to a defect in the pull-tab lid that could lead to contamination with botulism-causing bacteria. Consumers are urged not to eat the affected products, even if they appear normal.

The recall affects Genova, Van Camp’s, H-E-B, and Trader Joe’s brands, distributed across multiple states. No illnesses have been reported, but customers experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention.

Recalled cans should be discarded or returned for a full refund. Tri-Union Seafoods is offering a retrieval kit and replacement coupon for affected products. Consumers can contact the company for assistance.
