Seneca County Sheriff’s Office offering free boater safety course

  • / Updated:
  • Staff Report

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office will host a free Boater Safety Course later this month to help residents meet the state’s new boating certification requirements. The two-part course will be held on Thursday, February 27, from 5 PM to 9 PM, and Friday, February 28, from 5 PM to 9 PM, in the Training Room of the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center at 6150 Route 96 in Romulus.

New York State now requires anyone operating a motorized vessel to complete a boater safety course as of January 1, 2025.

Those interested in attending can register online at https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/224217. Participants are advised to park in the visitor parking lot and enter through the main lobby.

Although the course itself is free, there is a $10 fee for those who wish to obtain a permanent boating certificate from New York State Parks.
