Seneca County police agencies will participate in the statewide STOP-DWI Super Bowl High Visibility Engagement Campaign, beginning February 8 and concluding on February 9. The initiative, announced by Seneca County Sheriff and STOP-DWI Coordinator Timothy J. Thompson, Jr., is designed to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and to prevent injuries and fatalities during Super Bowl Weekend—a time historically linked to increased incidents of drunk driving.
Sheriff Thompson emphasized the importance of preparation and responsibility for those celebrating the event. “Enjoy the weekend and have fun, but have a plan. Do not regret a bad decision that you could have easily prevented,” he advised.
The STOP-DWI Super Bowl initiative is part of a broader series of campaigns organized by STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. These efforts target key holidays and events, including Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and St. Patrick’s Day, aiming to reduce drunk and impaired driving through heightened visibility and public engagement.
The campaign encourages individuals to “Have a Sober Plan” by downloading the STOP-DWI mobile app, which offers resources for finding safe transportation options. “Impaired driving is completely preventable. All it takes is a little planning,” the initiative’s message emphasizes.
Highly visible campaigns like this one play a crucial role in keeping roads safe during major celebrations. By promoting awareness and providing practical solutions, the STOP-DWI program hopes to reduce the number of impaired driving incidents across the state.
