Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) has introduced the Stop Funding Our Adversaries Act, aimed at prohibiting federal spending on research conducted in China or by entities controlled by the Chinese government.
According to a report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office, U.S. agencies allocated $28.9 million to Chinese research and development efforts between fiscal years 2015 and 2021. Tenney’s legislation seeks to eliminate both direct and indirect funding of such activities through federally funded research, grants, and contracts.
“Our nation’s foreign adversaries do not deserve a dime of our tax dollars,” Tenney stated. “The Stop Funding Our Adversaries Act will end all American taxpayer-funded research in China and the Chinese Communist Party, ensuring we are not funding the technical, military, or economic advancement of our adversaries.”
Tenney, a founding member of the DOGE Caucus, emphasized her commitment to accountability and transparency, underscoring the need to monitor how taxpayer dollars are spent.
