A Texas man was arrested early Saturday morning for driving while intoxicated after police observed his vehicle speeding and operating erratically on Liberty and Lake Streets.
Daniel I. Hernandez, 39, of Edinburg, Texas, was stopped by Penn Yan police at 1:09 a.m. on South Avenue. Officers noted that Hernandez showed multiple signs of intoxication during the stop and administered a series of field sobriety tests, which he failed.
Hernandez was taken to the Yates County Public Safety building, where he voluntarily submitted to a chemical breath test. His blood alcohol content was recorded at .16%, twice the legal limit. He was charged with DWI, DWI with a BAC of .08% or greater, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and multiple speeding offenses.
Hernandez was released on traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear in Penn Yan Village Court at a later date.
