An Avoca man has pleaded guilty to shooting his wife during a dispute two years ago.

Terry C. Long, Jr., 51, pleaded guilty to first-degree assault in Steuben County court Tuesday for shooting his wife in December 2023. The plea came as his trial was set to begin.

According to authorities, Long shot his wife in the face with a 12-gauge shotgun during an argument at their Avoca home. He initially blamed another person, but the investigation and victim’s statements disproved his claim.

He faces nine and a half years in prison and five years of post-release supervision. Sentencing is scheduled for April.
