Port Byron woman arrested for DWI after early-morning investigation

  • Staff Report

A Port Byron woman was arrested for driving while intoxicated early Sunday morning after deputies investigated a suspicious vehicle in Throop, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Gia S. Jones, 50, was found inside a running vehicle parked in a closed business lot near Turnpike Road and State Street Road at approximately 2:45 a.m. on January 26. Deputies determined that she had been driving the vehicle while intoxicated and took her into custody.

Jones was transported to the Cayuga County Public Safety Building for processing. Authorities say she refused to submit to a chemical test, a requirement under New York State law. As a result, she was held until her arraignment at 7:00 a.m.

Jones was charged under the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law for driving while intoxicated. She is scheduled to appear in Throop Town Court at a later date.
