Water conservation order issued in Ovid after devastating downtown fire

  • Staff Report

The Seneca County Health Department has issued a mandatory water conservation order following a massive fire in downtown Ovid at the Big M that has strained the community’s water supply.

The order, issued jointly by the Seneca County Health Department and Ovid’s Department of Public Works, will remain in place until further notice. The directive calls on all residents served by the Village of Ovid Water system to limit water usage to help maintain supply for essential needs, including firefighting efforts.

Officials said the conservation measures are critical to ensuring an adequate water supply remains available. They thanked residents for their understanding and cooperation during the ongoing emergency.

Residents were provided tips to conserve water, including running dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads, checking for and repairing leaks, and minimizing water use during daily activities like brushing teeth or taking showers.

The Seneca County Health Department and Village officials are urging residents to do their part to avoid a deeper crisis. Additional questions can be directed to the Village of Ovid Water Department at 607-869-2049 or the Seneca County Health Department at 315-539-1945.
