CFCU now accepting applications for 2025 Stringham scholarships, community awards

CFCU Community Credit Union has opened applications for its 2025 Richard V.V. Stringham Scholarships and Community Service Awards, offering local students financial support for higher education. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted by March 21, and funds can be used to cover various college-related expenses.

The Richard V.V. Stringham Scholarships provide up to $3,000 for students attending four-year colleges or universities and up to $1,500 for those pursuing two-year degrees. The Community Service Awards, which focus on recognizing exceptional volunteerism, offer one-time grants of up to $1,500.

Eligible applicants include high school seniors, GED earners, and non-traditional students starting full-time studies at accredited colleges in spring 2025. To qualify, students must reside in one of seven counties—Tompkins, Cortland, Cayuga, Seneca, Onondaga, Madison, or Ontario—and open a CFCU membership savings account by the application deadline. Selection criteria include academic performance, extracurricular involvement, and a personal essay, with special consideration for volunteer contributions in the Community Service Awards category.

“Supporting education and investing in our local youth is a cornerstone of our mission at CFCU,” said Lisa Whitaker, president and CEO of CFCU Community Credit Union. “We are honored to help these remarkable students pursue their dreams and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have on their communities.”
