The Canandaigua Emergency Squad is looking back on a record-breaking year while celebrating a series of accomplishments aimed at enhancing emergency medical services in the community.
The agency closed out 2024 with 8,514 calls for service—373 more than the previous year and nearly 783 more than 2022. On August 30, they set an agency record, responding to 38 calls in a single day, handling several critical cases and emergency transports.
“These milestones reflect the dedication of our members and our mission to provide timely, quality care to all,” the squad said in a letter to the community.
Among the year’s achievements, three emergency medical technicians became certified paramedics, and new volunteers joined the squad, training as drivers and EMTs. The agency also secured significant grant funding, including from Ontario County ARPA, enabling the purchase of three state-of-the-art LUCAS 3 Automatic Compression Devices.
Additionally, they replaced older ambulances with three new ones and obtained grants from the Town of Hopewell to purchase advanced medical gear, portable radios, and new suction units.
Operating as a non-profit without tax funding, the squad credited their success to partnerships with local hospitals, law enforcement, fire departments, and support from the community. “Our annual fund drive ensures we’re equipped to respond 24/7, with lifesaving supplies always ready,” the letter noted.
The Canandaigua Emergency Squad expressed gratitude for community support and emphasized their commitment to serving Canandaigua, East Bloomfield, and Naples.
“We hope you never need our services,” they added, “but we’re here when you do.”
