Skiers rescued after Bristol Mountain lift failure (video)

A mechanical failure halted the Comet Express chairlift at Bristol Mountain ski resort Saturday night, stranding skiers 25 to 40 feet above ground.

The ski patrol conducted a rope evacuation for six chairs, while an auxiliary power source helped unload others. The entire process lasted about 90 minutes, according to officials.

Rescuers used a slingshot technique to secure ropes for lowering guests safely, with no injuries reported. Skiers described the evacuation as safe and methodical.

The ski patrol, which trains for such events twice annually, ensured everyone was removed efficiently.
