NYSEG is inviting customers in the Auburn and Geneva divisions to attend open houses next week to learn about ongoing smart meter installations. The informational events aim to explain the benefits of smart meters and address questions about the upgrade process.
The open houses will take place on Tuesday, January 21, at the Newark American Legion, and Wednesday, January 22, at the Jordan Elbridge Community Center. Both events run from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Customers are welcome to drop in at any time, with no registration required.
Representatives from NYSEG will be on hand to share details about the scope of the installations, the timeline, and the benefits of smart meters. Informational displays will demonstrate how the new meters enable accurate billing, faster outage detection, and better insights into energy usage.
“Smart meters represent a significant improvement in the way energy is managed and billed,” NYSEG representatives said. “We’re excited to offer our customers tools that will improve transparency and efficiency.”
The installations will provide most residential and business customers in NYSEG’s service areas with electric smart meters and natural gas modules. Customers will receive detailed information from NYSEG prior to installations in their neighborhoods.
NYSEG serves approximately 894,000 electricity customers and 266,000 natural gas customers in upstate New York and operates over 35,000 miles of electric distribution lines. The initiative aligns with NYSEG’s ongoing efforts to modernize its infrastructure and improve customer service.
