Waterloo town supervisor faces felony burglary charge after state police investigation

  • Staff Report

State police have arrested two individuals in connection with a burglary that occurred at an earlier date in Seneca County. Waterloo Town Supervisor Don Trout, 40, and Michelle Geraghty, 39, both residents of Waterloo, are facing felony charges for third-degree burglary, according to the New York State Police.

The arrests stem from an incident categorized as “illegal entry with intent to commit a crime,” which took place in the Town of Waterloo.

State police said the two were identified as suspects during the investigation and took them into custody earlier this week.

Both were arraigned after their arrests, according to documents. Third-degree burglary is a Class D felony in New York, which carries a range of potential sentencing outcomes if convicted.

If there are no prior felony convictions, being found guilty of third-degree burglary can range from probation to prison time. However, judges have discretion to impose probation, conditional discharge or incarceration based on the circumstances.

No further details about the investigation has been released yet.
