Officials say a Yates County woman pleaded guilty to a charge of criminally negligent homicide in a fatal hit-and-run that occurred last year.

Sarah E. Olsen, 27, of Penn Yan, admitted to criminally negligent homicide and fleeing the scene in a 2024 hit-and-run that killed a 1-year-old boy in the Town of Benton. The incident occurred on Sept. 19, when Olsen’s SUV struck the child, who had wandered into the road, and she fled. The boy later died at a local hospital.

Authorities identified Olsen using evidence and interviews, leading to her arrest the next day. She faces sentencing on April 1, with penalties including up to four years in prison and additional time for leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
