Weather played a factor in Genoa crash: Only one vehicle involved

Emergency crews from the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department, King Ferry Fire Department, and Southern Cayuga Instant Aid, Inc. responded to a single-vehicle accident with injuries on NY Route 34 Friday morning, navigating treacherous road conditions caused by recent weather.

The call came in at 9:36 a.m., reporting a motor vehicle accident with personal injury (MVAPI) in the 1300 block of NY 34. Upon arrival, Genoa Fire Command confirmed that the vehicle had gone off the road and was still occupied, though no entrapment was reported.

Due to the slippery and hazardous road conditions, the King Ferry Fire Department was placed on standby at their quarters to ensure additional resources were available if needed.

The positioning of the accident next to a large driveway allowed emergency personnel and apparatus to operate safely off the road, avoiding further risk in active traffic lanes. Genoa Fire Engine 2’s crew worked to secure the vehicle, while Southern Cayuga Instant Aid transported one patient to Auburn for further medical care.

The scene was cleared shortly after 10:00 a.m.

The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and Cayuga County 911 also assisted on-site.

Authorities remind all drivers to exercise extreme caution during hazardous weather conditions and to remain vigilant on slippery roads.

“Drive carefully out there!” the Genoa Volunteer Fire Department urged in a statement following the incident.
