A Victor woman was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly leaving a child unattended in a vehicle amid freezing temperatures outside a Tops Market in Farmington.
Kae J. Deweese, 38, of Brace Road, was taken into custody by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office around 2:15 p.m. at the Tops Market on State Route 96. She faces a charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Authorities say Deweese knowingly left a child under the age of 17 in a car seat inside a vehicle that was not running. The child was reportedly left unsupervised for approximately 17 minutes while outside temperatures hovered around 27 degrees, with a wind chill making it feel like 13 degrees.
Investigators said Deweese’s actions posed a likely risk to the physical, mental, and moral welfare of the child.
Deweese was processed and released with an appearance ticket. She is scheduled to answer the charge in Farmington Town Court at a later date.
