A terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day left 10 people dead and over 30 injured after Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, a 42-year-old from Texas, drove a vehicle into a crowd on Bourbon Street before opening fire on police.
Jabbar, who was killed in a shootout with police, had ISIS-related materials in his vehicle, including explosives concealed in coolers. Authorities are investigating possible accomplices after surveillance footage revealed others placing an explosive device.
The FBI is treating the incident as an act of terrorism. Security measures have been heightened, and a military police company has been deployed as officials continue sweeping the area for additional threats.
