A Chemung County Sheriff’s deputy was hospitalized with minor injuries Friday evening after a tractor-trailer struck their patrol car on Interstate 86 in Big Flats. The deputy had been directing traffic following an unrelated accident when the collision occurred.
The impact pushed the patrol car off the highway shoulder, prompting the temporary closure of I-86 eastbound. Traffic was rerouted via Exit 48 onto State Route 352.
Authorities expect to release more details soon as the investigation continues.
