Cayuga County residents can recycle their Christmas trees through the annual Trade a Tree program, organized by the Cayuga County Soil and Water Conservation District, Cornell Cooperative Extension, and the planning and economic development department. Participants who drop off their trees at the Natural Resource Center will receive a certificate for a tree seedling, redeemable at the spring tree and shrub sale.
The recycled trees will be turned into mulch for county projects. Drop-off dates run from Dec. 30 through Jan. 17, with varying hours on weekdays.
This initiative promotes sustainability while giving back to the community through replanting efforts.
