Two Ontario County men were arrested Monday for abandoning a dog and two cats in a Clifton Two men face misdemeanor charges of animal abandonment after allegedly leaving a dog and two cats unattended for weeks in a Clifton Springs apartment, according to the Ontario County Humane Society.
Davis S. Isaac, 46, and Richard L. Smith, 65, both of Room 135 at the Manchester Inn on Route 96, were arrested on Dec. 23 following an investigation that began on Aug. 1. Authorities were alerted after receiving complaints that tenants at 12 Kendall Street had not been seen for at least two weeks and had left their pets behind.
Officials gained entry to the apartment and rescued a 3-to-4-year-old female terrier and two domestic shorthair cats. The animals were taken to a shelter, where they received medical care and have been cared for since.
Isaac and Smith were each issued an appearance ticket to appear in Clifton Springs Village Court at a later date.
