Trump renews interest in U.S. ownership of Greenland

President-elect Donald Trump suggested the United States should control Greenland, citing national security and global freedom as key reasons. He made the remarks while announcing PayPal co-founder Ken Howery as his pick for U.S. ambassador to Denmark.

Trump previously floated the idea of purchasing Greenland during his first term but was rebuffed by Danish officials. The island, rich in natural resources and strategically located in the Arctic, holds significant geopolitical value amid rising global competition.

Greenland remains an autonomous territory under Denmark, with strong ties to Europe and growing attention from global powers like Russia.
