Another game, another loss for the Buffalo Sabres.
The Montreal Canadiens, who entered Tuesday’s game at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, handed the Sabres their 11th straight loss with a dominant 6-1 victory, highlighted by a Patrick Laine hat trick.
Buffalo (11-17-4) has now slipped behind Montreal in the standings. The Sabres surrendered two goals in the first period and four more in the second as the Canadiens cruised to victory.
Dylan Cozens provided Buffalo’s lone bright spot, scoring early in the second period with assists from JJ Peterka and Owen Power. Goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 15 of 21 shots through two periods before being replaced by James Reimer, who made six saves in relief.
The Sabres will return home to face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday at 7 p.m.
