A Macedon woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly defrauding a welfare assistance program, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

Tanya Smith, 51, of Peacock Circle, was arrested and charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, welfare fraud in the fourth degree, and offering a false instrument in the first degree. Investigators allege that Smith failed to report household income while receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, resulting in the illegal collection of $1,401 in assistance.

Smith was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Lyons Town Court to answer the charges.
