The Town of Jerusalem Planning Board met on December 5 and approved two key applications, including an expansion for the New York State Sheriffs’ Camp and a subdivision proposal. The meeting, held at 7:00 p.m., began with the Pledge of Allegiance and a roll call of board members.
Sheriffs’ Camp expansion approved
The board considered a steep slope application for the New York State Sheriffs’ Institute (NYSSI) camp, which proposed a new 9,000-square-foot single-story building with porches on three sides and an amphitheater overlooking Keuka Lake. The project, presented by Melissa Flynn of SMRT Architects and Engineers, addressed concerns raised by Yates County Soil and Water officials, including:
- Water drainage plans for gutters and foundation runoff.
- Details for the concrete truck washout location.
- Soil management plans, including provisions for stockpiling if needed.
Board member Melissa Gerhardt emphasized the importance of ensuring emergency access and suggested coordination with the local Fire Department. Minor erosion control measures were also discussed for the building’s northwest corner.
Following a review of the State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR), the board issued a negative declaration for environmental impact. A motion to approve the site plan with modifications was made by Gerhardt, seconded by Michael Hiller, and unanimously approved.
Subdivision application approved
The board also approved a subdivision application for David Kelly concerning a parcel identified as tax map 96.03-1-7.1. The only question raised was about the number of previous divisions of the parcel. A motion for approval was made by David English, seconded by Hiller, and passed unanimously.
Upcoming public hearing
Sarah Purdy announced a public hearing scheduled for Wednesday to discuss a proposed local law regarding the appointment of Planning Board and Zoning Board chairs by the Town Board. Currently, only the Zoning Board chair is appointed in this manner.
