Auburn seeks $1M grant to revive historic diner

The Auburn City Council voted to pursue a $1 million state grant to support reopening the iconic Hunter Dinerant, closed since 2022, The Auburn Citizen reports. The funding, from the Restore NY Communities Initiative, would aid a $4.8 million renovation plan by local developers.

Developers addressed city concerns about the diner’s safety over the Owasco River, agreeing to structural changes and floodway clearance. The project includes an accessible entrance and aims to secure permits from federal and state agencies.

The grant decision is expected next year, potentially revitalizing the 1951 diner.
