A land conservation nonprofit has purchased 30 acres in Schuyler County, expanding recreational access in the region. According to the Finger Lakes Land Trust, the newly acquired wooded land in Catharine, located off Oak Hill Road, borders the Finger Lakes Trail and Cayuta Creek.
The property, adjacent to the Connecticut Hill Wildlife Management Area, will be transferred to the state’s Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). This addition will enhance the 11,000-acre area, offering more space for hiking, birdwatching, hunting, and winter sports.
FLLT President Andrew Zepp emphasized the importance of preserving large forest areas like Connecticut Hill for wildlife, water quality, and public recreation. The expansion promises more opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy nature year-round.
