OpenAI announced the release of its AI video-generation tool, Sora, offering users the ability to create high-definition videos from text prompts. Similar to DALL-E for images, Sora can also extend videos, generate clips from still images, and blend scenes seamlessly.
Initially available to select safety testers, Sora is now being rolled out to users in the U.S. and several countries, though no launch date has been set for Europe and the U.K. The tool is included in existing ChatGPT Plus and Pro accounts at no additional cost.
Sora positions OpenAI to compete with video tools from Meta, Google, and Stability AI. While offering creative opportunities, it raises concerns over misinformation and deepfakes ahead of global elections.
