A group led by Tony Daddabbo has pitched a $4.8 million project to restore Auburn’s historic Hunter Dinerant at its current Genesee Street location.

The plan, first reported by The Citizen and unveiled at a city council meeting, seeks $1 million in state funding through the Restore NY Communities Initiative.

The diner, perched over the Owasco River, requires extensive structural updates. Architects detailed plans to temporarily remove the diner for restoration while addressing flood risks and strengthening its foundation.

The proposal, praised for preserving downtown’s character, awaits state environmental approval and a future council vote on the grant application.
