Steuben man arrested in Bath for illegal firearms, drug possession

A traffic stop in the Village of Bath on Tuesday evening led to the arrest of a man found in possession of multiple illegal firearms, high-capacity magazines, and narcotics, according to the Bath Police Department.

At approximately 8:14 p.m. on December 3, officers pulled over a vehicle on West William Street. The driver, identified as Cory VanHorne, 40, of Avoca, was suspected of possessing illegal firearms during the investigation. A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle revealed multiple handguns, a semiautomatic assault shotgun, large-capacity ammunition feeding devices, and a small quantity of narcotics.

Police said one of the handguns and the semiautomatic shotgun were loaded at the time of the search. VanHorne was taken into custody and transported to the Steuben County Jail for Centralized Arraignment Processing.

He faces two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C felony, and 11 counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony.

VanHorne is awaiting further court proceedings.
