The U.S. Mint’s Harriet Tubman Commemorative Coin Program, which began in January, will end sales this month, according to The Auburn Citizen. Coins commemorating Tubman’s bicentennial include $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins, and half-dollar clad coins, with prices ranging from $52 to $870 depending on type and finish.
The program has raised $684,725 in surcharges to support the Harriet Tubman Home in Auburn and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.
Tubman’s legacy as an abolitionist and Civil War hero is reflected in the coin designs, first unveiled in July 2023. Since launch, over 62,000 coins have been sold, with the $1 silver proof coin proving most popular.
