The picturesque 127-acre campus of Wells College, located on Cayuga Lake’s eastern shore, is now on the market, according to a listing by CBRE. The liberal arts college, which operated for 156 years, closed in June due to declining enrollment and financial challenges.
The property features over 20 buildings, including classrooms, dining facilities, and athletic spaces, and is assessed at $8.5 million.
Historic items such as the Minerva statue and stagecoaches are excluded from the sale. Proceeds from the sale will first pay off debts, with remaining funds transferred to another New York college, as required by state law.
Officials say finding a buyer could take over a year, with all transactions needing state approval.
