Lansing Pushes for Speed Limit Reduction on West Dryden Road

  • Staff Report

After a fatal accident at the intersection of West Dryden Road and Sheldon Road claimed the life of a 63-year-old resident, local officials and community members are advocating to reduce the road’s speed limit from 55 to 45 miles per hour. Residents, led by Kristina Endler, gathered over 70 signatures in a petition urging the change and presented it to the Lansing Town Board, which unanimously supported the initiative.

The town and county have submitted the request to the New York State Department of Transportation, highlighting safety concerns and data showing the road’s high accident severity rates.

While flashing lights have been installed at the stop sign, residents believe lowering the speed limit is a crucial first step to preventing future tragedies. Endler emphasized that more actions are needed to protect lives and property in the area.
