The sudden closure of Wells College earlier this year has left more than 700 alumni concerned about the preservation of the institution’s artifacts and history.
In response, the Wells Legacy Society (WLS) formed to advocate for safeguarding the college’s 150-year legacy. However, frustrations with the Wells College Association of Alumnae and Alumni (WCA) have grown, as WLS members report delays and limited transparency in their interactions.
Preservation advocates fear that the unheated campus buildings could damage artifacts over the winter. Concerns intensified after mishandling reportedly broke the historic Minerva statue during a moving attempt.
WLS leaders have criticized the WCA for acting as a proxy for the college’s administration rather than addressing alumni concerns. Without clear answers, the group remains steadfast in its efforts to ensure Wells College’s history endures.
