A devastating fire tore through a home on Alexander Street in Avoca Sunday night, killing two dogs and leaving the property in ruins. Fire crews responded shortly after 8 p.m. on Oct. 27 to find the back of the two-story home engulfed in flames.
Firefighters from multiple departments, including Bath, Kanona, Wallace, and Cohocton, were called in to assist, with Bath’s ladder truck used for roof ventilation. No residents were home at the time, but the two dogs inside did not survive.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The American Red Cross is providing support to the displaced family. The Avoca Hose Company expressed gratitude to Steuben County 911 Dispatch, local police and fire teams, and community officials for their support during the response.
