Geneva council split over farmers market location: Downtown or lakefront?

Geneva’s City Council debated relocating the city’s farmers market back to its former downtown location to boost foot traffic.

Councilors argued it would draw more locals and increase central business activity. The market currently operates at the Finger Lakes Welcome Center, where it relocated in 2018.

The Finger Lakes Times reported Saturday that economic development director David West cautioned against moving the market, highlighting its growth at the lakefront with an average of 30 vendors weekly and state funding tied to the current location.

The council ultimately decided to explore options for an additional downtown presence in the future.
