The Seneca Falls Town Board will hold a public hearing tonight at 6 p.m. to discuss the possible creation of a new public works department. The proposal, first introduced by Supervisor Frank Schmitter at the September meeting, has sparked interest due to its potential impact on town infrastructure.
If approved, the department would be led by an appointed director, separate from the elected highway superintendent. Schmitter emphasized that the new department would focus on addressing drainage and infrastructure concerns and would operate independently of the town’s water and sewer services.
The meeting will take place at the Municipal Building on 130 Ovid St. Schmitter has expressed interest in involving the entire board in selecting the department’s director.
