Arizona and Missouri have secured enough petition signatures to place proposed constitutional amendments enshrining abortion rights on their November ballots, bringing the total number of states voting on the issue this fall to seven.
Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2022 decision to overturn the nationwide right to abortion, a national push has emerged to let voters decide the issue. Missouri’s ballot measure seeks to reverse the state’s near-total abortion ban, while Arizona’s would protect the right to abortion up to 24 weeks. Other states voting on similar measures include Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Nevada, and South Dakota, with each state facing varying levels of abortion access currently in place.
The results of these votes could significantly shape the landscape of abortion rights across the country, continuing the trend seen in previous state-level decisions where voters have largely sided with abortion rights supporters.
