A Costco shopper was forced to abandon her $200 grocery cart after an employee confiscated it due to a strict membership policy. The incident has sparked outrage among members who feel the rules are becoming excessively stringent.
Alli, the shopper, recounted her experience in a Facebook post, detailing how she was stopped at the checkout for using someone else’s membership card. Despite being willing to pay over $200 for her items, she was not allowed to complete her purchase. “They ripped the cart from my hands…WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE CART,” she wrote, expressing her frustration.
Costco’s policy requires the primary cardholder’s name to match the person making the purchase. This rule, meant to prevent membership sharing, has led to stricter enforcement in recent months. “Costco has officially lost my business FOREVER!” Alli declared, vowing to shop at Sam’s Club instead.
The incident has ignited a debate on social media, with many supporting Alli’s stance and criticizing Costco’s customer service. The company has not commented on the specific incident, but maintains that enforcing membership rules is necessary to uphold the benefits for paying members.
