The Rochester-Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RTS) will introduce on-demand public transit in Newark, Lyons, and Palmyra, thanks to a $3.6 million state grant.
RTS spokesperson Tom Brede tells the Finger Lakes Times the service will be similar to ride-sharing and aims to improve transit in rural areas. He noted that the program is a pilot for now. Work is ongoing to implement the necessary technology.
The funding is part of an $11.1 million investment by the State Department of Transportation to reduce vehicle emissions and congestion in the Finger Lakes Region. Other towns, including LeRoy, Dansville, and Avon, will also benefit.
