The Cayuga County Water and Sewer Authority is seeking funding for a $30 million project to connect over 400 homes along Cayuga Lake to a new sewer line.

Officials tell the Auburn Citizen that the project involves installing two pump stations, 47,500 feet of sewer main, and 275 grinder pumps, as well as upgrading the Aurora wastewater treatment plant.

The goal is to replace substandard septic systems to prevent contamination of the lake. Funding sources include state grants and a federal earmark requested by Rep. Claudia Tenney. The project’s timeline depends on securing these funds.
