Governor Kathy Hochul has announced the start of a $38.1 million project to modernize the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport. The project aims to enhance the passenger experience with $18 million from the Governor’s Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition and $16.8 million in federal funds.
The renovations will include upgraded terminal areas, improved lighting, new signage, and a user-friendly mobile app for airport services. Key features also include a revamped Veterans Area and a new Frederick Douglass Legacy Area to honor the abolitionist’s contributions.
“These improvements will create a tremendous first impression for visitors to the Finger Lakes,” said Governor Hochul. The project is expected to be completed by summer 2025 and will generate around 325 jobs.
