Steuben County Villages to Receive $16.5M for Water Quality Improvements

Three villages in Steuben County will receive $16.5 million in funding from New York State to enhance water quality, Governor Kathy Hochul announced.

The villages of Bath, Painted Post, and Canisteo are set to benefit from the state’s Environmental Facilities Corporation’s approval of over $300 million for clean water and drinking water projects statewide. This financial assistance, part of the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Water Infrastructure Improvement (WIIA) grant program, and State Revolving Funds, will help these communities upgrade their water infrastructure.

Bath will receive $6 million in DWSRF financing and a $3 million WIIA grant to install new water mains. Canisteo will use $5.4 million in financing and grants to improve its wastewater treatment plant, benefiting the Canisteo River. Painted Post will receive $2.1 million for similar upgrades to protect the Chemung River.
